Veni sancte spiritus Amen. Alleluia |
PentecostINTROIT. Wisdom 1:7. The Spirit of the Lord hath filled the whole world, alleluia: and that which containeth all things hath knowledge of the voice, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia. Ps. 68:1. Let God arise and let his enemies be scattered: let them also that hate him flee before him. Glory be....The Spirit.... COLLECT. O God, who on this day didst teach the hearts of thy faithful people, by sending to them the light of thy Hôly Spirit: Grant us by the same Spirit to have a right judgment in all thîngs, and evermore to rejoice in his holy comfort; through the merits of Christ Jesus our Savîour, who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the same Spirit, ône God, world without end. Amen. The Lesson from the Acts of the Apostles. When the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven. Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language. And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans? And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born? Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia, Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes, Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God. PSALM. 104:24-32. O LORD, how manifold are thy works! in wisdom hast thou made them all; the earth is full of thy riches. So is the great and wide sea also; wherein are things creeping innumerable, both small and great beasts. There go the ships, and there is that leviathan, whom thou hast made to take his pastime therein. These wait all upon thee, that thou mayest give them meat in due season. When thou givest it them, they gather it; and when thou openest thy hand, they are filled with good. When thou hidest thy face, they are troubled: when thou takest away their breath, they die, and are turned again to their dust. When thou lettest thy breath go forth, they shall be made; and thou shalt renew the face of the earth. The glorious majesty of the LORD shall endure for ever; the LORD shall rejoice in his works. The earth shall tremble at the look of him; if he do but touch the hills, they shall smoke. The Lesson from the First Epistle of Blessed Paul the Apostle to the Corinthians. Dearly Beloved: There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will. For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ. For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. ALLELUIA, alleluia. Psalm 104:30. O send forth thy Spirit, and they shall be made: and thou shalt renew the face of the earth. Alleluia. Come, Holy Spirit, and fill the hearts of thy faithful people: and kindle in them the fire of thy love. SEQUENCE. Veni, Sancte Spiritus. Come, thou holy Spirit, come! And from thy celestial home Shed a ray of light divine! Come, thou Father of the poor! Come, thou source of all our store! Come, within our bosoms shine! Thou of comforters the best; Thou the soul's most welcome guest; Sweet refreshment here below; In our labor, rest most sweet; Grateful coolness in the heat; Solace in the midst of woe. O most blessed light divine, Shine within these hearts of thine, and our inmost being fill! Where thou art not, man hath naught, Nothing good in deed or thought, Nothing free from taint of ill. Heal our wounds, our strength renew; On our dryness pour thy dew; Wash the stains of guilt away: Bend the stubborn heart and will; melt the frozen, warm the chill; guide the steps that go astray. On the faithful, who adore And confess thee evermore In thy sev'nfold gift descend; Give them virtue's sure reward; Give them thy salvation, Lord: Give them joys that never end. Amen. Alleluia. The Continuation of the Holy Gospel Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you. And when he had so said, he shewed unto them his hands and his side. Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the LORD. Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you. And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost: Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained. OFFERTORY. Psalm 68:28b,29. Stablish the thing, O God, that thou hast wrought in us: for thy temple's sake at Jerusalem, shall kings bring presents unto thee, alleluia. SECRET. Sanctify, O Lord, we beseech thee, these our oblations: that being enlightened by the beams of thy Holy Spirit, our hearts may be purified from all evil. Through Jesus Christ thy Son our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the same Spirit, ever one God, world without end. Amen. COMMUNION. Acts 2:2,4. Suddenly, there was heard a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, where they were sitting, alleluia: and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, proclaiming the wondrous works of God, alleluia, alleluia. POSTCOMMUNION. We humbly beseech thee, O Lord, that thou wouldest send
down upon our hearts the healthful Spirît of thy grace: and, that
we may bring forth fruit unto thêe, pour upon us the inward dew
of his blessing. Through Jesus Christ thy Son our Lôrd, who liveth
and reigneth with thee in the unity of the same Spirit, ever ône
God, world without end. Amen. |
